GXC Crystal Units are designed and produced to be very sturdy, but improper handling of it may result in malfunction depending on the environment and conditions under which they are used, therefore user are requested to use our products under the condition of use indicated in the specification of each product. When not indicated in individual product specification of each product, products are to be used under following handling precautions :

 

1. Mechanical Shock Precautions
GXC Crystal Units are designed and produced to be very sturdy against impact (three times randomly dropped from height of 75 cm into hard wooden board surface). However they may be damaged due to excessive mechanical shocks or excessive drops. To avoid the shock by automatic mounting machines, please check the condition in advance.

 

2. Cleaning Precautions
Crystal Units using AT-cut crystal blank can be subjected to use ultrasonic cleaning, however, since the crystal blank maybe affected depending on the condition, especially when crystal units frequency approximate the frequency of an ultrasonic cleaner, the crystal blank may break easily. Therefore be sure to check the ultrasonic cleaning condition in advance. Also do not use cleaners and solvents that may penetrate products.

 

3. Precautions of Lead Bending and Cutting
When bending and cutting the leads of crystal unit, please be caution that force beyond that which is required is not applied to each lead wire, pulling the lead strongly may cracks the hermetic glass seal (root of the lead), reduce the airtightness or degree of vacuum, this may eventually result in deterriotation of the characteristics of crystal units. Be careful not to apply pressure beyond that which is required when cutting the leads.

 

4. Soldering Precautions
Product should be used within individual product specifications or conditions mentioned. Unless spefically indicated otherwise, soldering should be performed at an allowance temperature of 240ºC or below, and within 10 seconds.

 

5. Heat Resistance and Storage Precaution
Use or storage under high or low temperature over a long period may deteriorate the quality of the crystal products and offset the frequency stability. It is advisable to use and store at normal temperature and humidity level. Recommended storage condition is :
Temperature : 5ºC to 35ºC
Humidity : not more than 75% RH

 

6. Chemicals Precautions
Avoid the use of chemicals that may corrode container materials, lead and so forth.

7. Precaution of Handling of Reel
Crystal Units should be stored at the normal temperature and humidity conditions, avoid storing over a long period and mount them immediately after unpacking the box. Please carefully handle the inner and outer boxes and reel. Applying external pressure may cause deformation of reel and tape.

8. Drive Level in Design Precautions
Applying excessive drive level to the quartz crystal unit may cause deteriorate for characteristics or damage. Circuit design must be such as to maintain a proper drive level (see page7)

9. Negative Resistance in Design Precautions
Unless adequate negative resistance is allocated in the oscillation circuit, start up time of oscillation may be increase or no oscillation may occur. In order to avoid this, provide enough negative resistance in the circuit design.

10. Load Capacitance in Design Precautions
Difference in the load capacitance in the oscillation circuit may result in deviations in the oscillations frequency from the desired frequency. Attempting to tune by force may merely cause abnormal oscillation. When design, please consider the load capacitance of the oscillation circuit.
